Kansas City Musical Club
organized to stimulate, encourage, and acquire a broader knowledge of music and musical literature

Discovered in our archives ... The Student Department presented a program on January 12, 1920, in which Miss Lola Belle Shackelford performed Romance by Grunfeld and Elegy by Nollet.

It is pleasing to see that Lillian B. Gilmour (Lola Belle Shackelford) demonstrated her interest in music long, long ago,  that her legacy inspires and assists young musicians in the Kansas City area today, ... AND that the Kansas City Musical Club remains active in encouraging young people to learn how to make and to listen to music.

In late 2008, the Kansas City Musical Club received a generous bequest of $25,000 from the Lillian B. Gilmour estate.  Mrs. Gilmour's only stipulation was that the fund be used "to provide for the musical education of children".  A committee was formed and the initial grants were awarded in the fall of 2010.  The final grants from the Gilmour bequest were awarded in the spring of 2016.
