As of 12/31/11, thanks to the generosity of club members and friends, our full $2,500 commitment was paid! Here's the background on why we participated in the Kauffman Performing Arts Center's fund raising effort:

Re: Symphony Century Fund
Dear Musical Club Members and Supporters:
The Kansas City Musical Club (KCMC) voted unanimously in 1911 to donate $2,000 to form the Kansas City Symphony. The conductor was the well-known teacher and composer, Danish-born Carl Busch.* Kansas City was ready and aching to have its own symphony. In our December, 2010 meeting Doris Jean Cranfill, our 2009 KCMC honoree and longtime club member, suggested that it is time to step up and enthusiastically show our support for the new Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts (KPAC). The Board voted to set a goal of $2,500 which would acknowledge the KCMC donation with a commemorative seat in the KPAC.
Our paying membership is not the several hundred it used to be. If each one of our fifty-six members and some of our friends donate $35 each, we will attain our minimum goal by spring, 2011. The time is right for each of us to demonstrate where our hearts are and will always be: in support of the arts, and in furthering music education and excellence in greater Kansas City.
We thank you for the commitments you have already made by generously supporting the Scholarship Program which annually helps numerous young musicians further their careers. These awards amount to $10,000. We have established a new KCMC grant award, the Gilmour Award, which focuses on the musical education of children. These awards amount to $5,000 annually. Few musical clubs in the United States can compare with your club. Your donation to the "Symphony Century Fund" will be fully tax deductible because of our club's 501-c-3 status.
Please consider supporting the "Symphony Century Fund" with any amount you choose. Make your check payable to the "Kansas City Musical Club" with the memo notation "Symphony Century Fund". Send to Chris Hands, Treasurer KCMC, 10206 Edelweiss Cir., Merriam, KS 66203.
Our sincere thanks and warmest greetings for this holiday season,
Jennifer Liebnitz, President
Kansas City Musical Club
